*PETE RICHARDS,  RICHARDS ENERGY– “LIGHTING” THE WAY TO REDUCED ENERGY COSTS

    http://www.richardsenergy.com

Do you really know the payback for new systems? Is the newest technology the best?  What are the factors to consider? Should you do the retrofit yourself? If the savings are small, is it really worth doing? Can we really save trees without paying more?

Peter F. Richards is an energy engineer at Richards Energy Group (REG) in Landisville, PA.  REG concentrates on reducing electric and gas utility bills for clients through rate options, audits and common sense.  To maximize the savings from electric deregulation in Pennsylvania, REG has successfully developed a strong industrial-commercial users’ group—wielding an electric load of 219,000 kW ($66 million annual electric billing).  REG is a Licensed Electric Supplier in PA, and incorporated as Richards Energy Group, Inc. in January, 2003.

Pete earned his BSME from York College of Pennsylvania, is an EIT in PA, is a Certified Energy Manager, and holds memberships in ASME, and AEE.

    * SCOTT VAN ORMER-AIR POWER CONSULTING GROUP– REDUCING OPERATING COSTS AND ENERGY DEMAND OF COMPRESSORS

    ABOUT AIR POWER USA:

Air Power USA, Inc., started in 1986, specializes in Air Compressors, Compressed Air Equipment and Compressed Air Systems for the industrial and construction markets. They are independent consultants. They have developed several accredited training courses for continuing education and complete curriculum for technical colleges. Air Power USA offers complete plant surveys and problem solving analysis of compressed air systems including energy management studies. The founder, Hank Van Ormer, is author of the book, “Energy Savings in Compressed Air“…..getting the most from your compressed air system available at this web address: http://www.maintenanceresources.com/bookstore/fluidpower/compair%20power.html#Author.

Air Power USA, Inc. has been very active in the Department of Energy “Compressed Air Challenge Program” as a charter member of the Compressed Air Efficiency council working with the basic program development and as a member of the Training Committee.

    * DAVE EBERLY- ARMSTRONG WORLD– BRINGING DOWN THE COST OF ENERGY IN YOUR BUILDINGS – A CASE STUDY

Armstrong World Industries Corporate Campus spends more than $1.8M annually for energy.  Electricity and natural gas costs are the significant components, with fuel oil contributing about $50,000.  Two formalized energy cost reduction efforts were initiated during 2003, addressing both main sources of energy cost.  These projects were categorized as process improvements, one a Trailblazing effort, the other a Six-Sigma project.  Trailblazing is a process designed to analyze and improve key business challenges quickly. Six-Sigma is a more comprehensive process improvement methodology with a key outcome of reducing the number of “defects” in a process. Both process improvement projects have resulted in significant energy use reductions (approx 1.6 MM kWH through 2004, an additional 860,000 kWH in 2005), environmental improvements, and reduced Campus energy expenses.

    * LIBBY DODSON-PA DEP– HOW THE STATE OF PA  LEVERAGES  ENERGY CONSERVATION EFFORTS

Libby Dodson will discuss services and tools the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection promotes to building facility/ energy managers and owners on energy efficient buildings practices.  Dodson will focus her discussion on the suite of tools available on the ENERGY STAR website. She will also discuss the need for energy benchmarking using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and the U.S. DOE’s Facility Energy Decision System (FEDS) Software. She will share how developing a detailed knowledge of a building using energy benchmarking leads to the use of performance contracting with Energy Service Company’s. Dodson will explain the advantage of partnering with PA DEP on these programs. How organizations and DEP mutually benefit from the program? Also, what funds are available to the public groups working on cutting edge projects in PA? In addition, for those organizations planning to construct new buildings, how LEED may be the answer?

Libby Dodson Chief, Division of Pollution Prevention and Energy Promotion Office of Energy and Technology Development, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection

Libby Dodson has a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration and worked in several large hospitals as an administrator followed by 9 years at the Department of Health as a Public Health Administrator.  Realizing that Public Health is closely linked to environmental issues, Ms. Dodson became interested in pollution prevention and renewable energy/energy efficiency programs.  She joined the PA DEP in 2001, working for the Office of Energy and Technology Development as a Division Chief of Pollution Prevention and Energy Promotion.

Art Mann, Sr. — AMERICAN GENIUS CORPORATION– A/C TECHNOLOGY ADVANCES  READY TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING….

    http://www.usgenius.com

Art will discuss some recent advances in A/C technology, and the results of operating data.    These large A/C systems are based on a liquid desiccation principle that eliminates the need for compressors.   This relieves maintenance and heavy power consumption.

But possibly the biggest advantage is the ability to design systems for environments with high humidity.   This is particularly important during warm weather months when mold and other indoor air quality issues often surface in large buildings, and the conventional technology is hard pressed to deliver economically.

This technology also offers potential for further energy savings by connection to solar systems.
